Song premiere: “Heartbreakers” – The Motion Epic

The motion epic are a synthpop trio with a heartland rock twist that transports listeners to another place and time. Their song “Heartbreakers” was heavily inspired by a certain type of ’80s Top 40 “party” bop – a la “Sussudio,” “Dancing on the Ceiling,” and “Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin’.” But The Motion Epic are a rock band, no matter how hard they try not to be, so the massive drums and driving guitars inevitably came into play, and we ended up with something that captures the most fun and extreme aspects of ’80s music in its most memorable genres – synthpop, glam rock, and John Hughes montages. Imagine Michael Jackson and Phil Collins collaborating in the studio. That’s “Heartbreakers.”

Led by Pat DiMeo’s powerful vocals and Aaron “Mister the Kid” Henry’s electrifying guitar, along with Nick “Kalimocho” Colbert on keys and drums, The Motion Epic deliver a sound that is both nostalgically familiar and undeniably fresh.

From the artist:

“The song deals with the idea of being with someone who will only spark your passion when you meet ‘the one,’ which saves you from having to make a difficult decision,” says songwriter Pat DiMeo. “After coming up with the story, our goal was to write a song that captured the tormenting feeling of someone contemplating adultery – something we often see in our ’80s romantic comedies.”
