Report: Marvel recasts Chris Evans, shocking casting revealed

Interesting reports are emerging about the cast list of an upcoming Marvel project.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has changed a lot over the past 15 years. What began as a small, focused team of Avengers – with Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark/Iron Man at the helm – has evolved into a sprawling world that now even spans multiple realities.

While the Infinity Saga ended in 2019, we are now in the middle of Marvel’s Multiverse Saga. This was not well received by fans and critics, as several projects – such as The wonders (2023) and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania (2023) – a flop both financially and culturally. The former is now Marvel’s biggest box office flop to date, grossing just $206.1 million against a gross budget of $274.8 million. Yikes.

Fortunately, Marvel Studios is well aware of its own shortcomings of late. Both Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige and The Walt Disney Company CEO Bob Iger have made it clear that they will focus more on quality than quantity in the coming years. Several projects (such as Daredevil: Reborn) was reconsidered after the recent flops.

To reshuffle the future of the franchise, the studio has significantly trimmed its 2024 release slate. For the first time since 2012, only one Marvel film will be released this year (not counting 2020, when not a single Marvel film made it to the big screen for obvious reasons).

Deadpool and Wolverine (2024) – the third film of the Dead Pool Franchise – will premiere in July, with Ryan Reynolds reprising his role as Wade Wilson/Deadpool and Hugh Jackman returning as James “Logan” Howlett/Wolverine, although the character met his cinematic end in his last appearance, Logan (2017).

Expectations are high for this film, with many fans predicting that the MCU will return to form. Much of the hype stems from the rumored cast list. Since the film delves deep into the concept of the multiverse, it’s only natural that we’ll get plenty of fun cameos. Everyone from Patrick Stewart (Professor X) to Taylor Swift (as Lady Deadpool or Dazzler) has been linked to the project (as has pretty much every actor ever linked to a superhero film).

While we try to temper our expectations a bit, a new rumor has us pretty excited about what we can expect from Deadpool and WolverineAccording to The Geeky Cast, five characters will make a cameo appearance in the film as part of the resistance team.

According to rumors, this team will consist of Blade (Wesley Snipes), Gambit (Channing Tatum), Human Torch (Chris Evans), X-23 (Dafne Keen) and Elektra (Jennifer Garner).

Snipes previously played Blade (aka Eric Brooks) in three films from 1998 to 2004. Blade will (theoretically) be played by Mahershala Ali in future Marvel projects, if the film – optimistically scheduled for release in late 2025 – ever comes to fruition.

In the meantime, Tatum should play Gambit in a standalone X-Men Spinoff, which was ultimately canceled. Keen portrayed X-23, Wolverine’s daughter, in Loganwhile Garner played the role of murderer Elektra Natchios in both films. Daredevil (2003) (with her ex-husband Ben Affleck as the title character) and its spinoff, Electra (2005). Her main role in Deadpool and Wolverine.

The most interesting rumor here is of course Chris Evans as Human Torch. Evans previously played the character in Fantastic Four (2005) and Fantastic Four: The Rise of the Silver Surfer (2007) before playing a much bigger superhero, Captain America. Evans played the role of Steve Rogers in 11 installments of the MCU between 2011 and 2019, with his character being written out of the franchise Avengers: Endgame (2019), after deciding to travel back in time to grow old with Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell) and pass the mantle of Captain America to Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie).

Evans has previously been reticent about his return to the MCU. In 2023, he said GQ“I will never say never, simply because it was such a wonderful experience. But it is also very precious to me. It is something I am very proud of. And like I said, sometimes I can’t believe it even happened.”

If he is (again) transformed into the Human Torch by Steve Rogers, the Captain America legacy that Evans obviously values so much will remain intact. Of course, these are just rumors at the moment, but this is not the first time that Evans has been involved with Deadpool and WolverineWe will sit in the cinema on July 26th and find out the truth for ourselves.

What cameos do you hope to see in Deadpool and Wolverine? Are you rooting for Chris Evans to star in the film? We’d love to hear your thoughts!
