Cause of death of Crazy Town singer Shifty Shellshock announced

Earlier this week it was announced that 90s star and Crazy Twon singer Shifty Shellshock had died at the age of 49. Now the cause of death has been made public.

Amid the rise of nu-metal and rap-rock in the 1990s, Crazy Town broke into the mainstream thanks to their debut album and single butterfly. Built on the foundation of Nice little song by the Red Hot Chili Peppers, the single perfectly matched the funk and aggressiveness of the era. Although the group would never achieve this level of success again, they cemented their place in the cultural zeitgeist with butterfly nearly half a billion streams on Spotify. The group has been in the spotlight again since the tragic death of singer Shifty Shellshock earlier this week. The news that the singer, aged just 49, had died sent shockwaves through the music industry as family, friends and fans remembered the late singer.

While the public mourned Shifty’s death, details of his death were not revealed until days later. The news came from Crazy Town’s manager Howie Hubberman, who announced that the singer died of an accidental overdose. Hubberman explained, “After his battle with addiction and the rapid success of Crazy Town with ‘Butterfly,’ Seth Binzer was never able to manage his addiction on a more successful level.” He continued, “The cause of death was a combination of prescription drugs and street-bought drugs. Shifty was a friend and really wanted to heal himself – unfortunately, no one had the right tools to do so.” Shifty Shellshock had made his addiction problems public and had previously appeared in several seasons of Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew.

Anyone struggling with addiction should seek professional help.
