Nolan Taylor releases fan-favorite cover of Colby Caillat hit “Bubbly”

Sometimes the covers that catch fans’ attention the most are the ones they least expected.

I mean, it might seem a little contradictory that an up-and-coming Americana artist who has organically built his fanbase on brutally honest and carefully introspective lyricism would decide to cover a lighthearted and mainstream pop song. But that’s exactly what Nolan Taylor has been doing at his shows lately. The Cincinnati, Ohio-based songwriter is known for covering great music on social media from time to time and even sprinkling a few killer covers into each of his live sets.

One song that quickly became a fan favorite at live shows was Colby Caillat’s 2007 debut single and megahit “Bubbly,” a lighthearted love song that everyone loves and knows the lyrics to, whether they want to admit it or not. I saw Taylor at a show a few months ago, and before I even realized “Bubbly” was a cover he’d played, several fans in the audience were screaming it out in hopes he’d play it. In the same set where he played many of his hard-hitting originals as well as a great version of the Grateful Dead classic “Shakedown Street,” Taylor played “Bubbly” and the crowd went wild.

And in response to the support of his fans, Taylor did us all a favor and decided to officially record his cover of the song. Interestingly, though, in a recent Instagram post, Taylor hinted that “Bubbly” started out as a fun, somewhat tongue-in-cheek cover at concerts, and that I imagine he never thought he’d end up recording it.

“I started playing ‘Bubbly’ almost half jokingly, half seriously, and if I’m honest, the message behind this song is just beautiful, so I was happy that so many of you sang along live.

From Friday (or from midnight tomorrow) you can sing along wherever you are. The complete music video is also included. Love you all”

I’m not ashamed to say it – it’s an incredibly catchy, feel-good song, and it’s been on rotation ever since I was reminded of it at Taylor’s show. “Bubbly” was originally written by Caillat with Jason Reeves and released as Caillat’s debut single in 2007 and was included on her subsequent debut album. coconut later this summer.

The song was hugely popular and launched her career as a pop singer/songwriter. Since then, it has been streamed over 620 million times on Spotify alone.

Also listen to the original for reference.

If you’re not familiar with Nolan Taylor, he’s an introspective lyricist with understatedly powerful vocals and a penchant for brutally honest song content that puts his own personal struggles and experiences on full display. With his incredibly lovable, authentic and all-around likable personality shining through in his music and social media presence, fans across the country have quickly bought into Taylor’s powerful delivery of these tragic stories.

Taylor, who is also extremely popular and respected among his peers in the industry, gained serious attention when his song “68” experienced semi-viral success on RadioWV’s YouTube platform in December 2022, but he has since proven that he has a lot more up his sleeve.
