Woman asks Beachwood police to search for missing boyfriend at golf club; man found dead at local gas station

BEACHWOOD, Ohio — A concerned woman asked Beachwood police for help in locating her boyfriend at Canterbury Golf Club.

Police did not find him in Canterbury, but found him dead at a local petrol station.

On June 18 at 12:30 a.m., officers went to Canterbury Golf Club, 22000 S. Woodland Road, after a 33-year-old woman from New Franklin, Ohio, asked police to check on the welfare of her 37-year-old boyfriend from Boardman, Ohio.

The friend was supposed to leave the club by 10:15 p.m. on June 17.

The police could not find the man or his car, a BMW 3 Series.

However, a flock camera captured the car traveling on Chagrin Boulevard at 10:04 p.m.

The car was found shortly thereafter at the True North Shell gas station, 27010 Chagrin Blvd., parked between the middle row of gas pumps.

Officers questioned the seller about the car and learned that the man had entered the restroom “about an hour ago.”

The toilet was locked. When the officers called, they received no response from inside.

The police broke down the door and found the man unconscious and sitting quietly on the toilet.

Rescue attempts by police officers from Beachwood and later from Orange, who brought a defibrillator to the scene of the accident, were unsuccessful.

The administration of Narcan was also unsuccessful.

The cause of death was not initially known. The Orange police are investigating.
