Dodgers minor players: River Ryan, Chris Campos, Alex Freeland, Josue De Paula

The Dodgers’ minor leagues featured some strong pitching lines on Thursday.

Player of the day

Chris Campos In his Double-A debut, he managed five strikeouts and no walks in six scoreless innings and allowed just four singles for Tulsa. All four hits came in the first three innings, and Campos retired the last 10 batters he faced.

Selected in the seventh round of the 2022 draft by the Dodgers out of St. Mary’s College – the same school that produced Tony Gonsolin and Corbin Burnes – the 23-year-old Campos had a 3.15 ERA with 50 strikeouts and just 10 walks in 45⅔ innings at High-A Great Lakes this year before being promoted on Tuesday.

Oklahoma City – Triple-A team

A late rally in Oklahoma City failed an away defeat against the Reno Aces (D-backs).

Trailing by three in the ninth inning, Austin Gauthier opened the inning with a home run that matched his double from earlier in the game. That brought Oklahoma City within 4-2, and Hunter Feduccia and Chris Okey singled to tie the game with one out. But Drew Avans was taken out on a groundout and James Outman was taken out on a strikeout.

River Ryan struck out five of his 15 batters in his third start with OKC. He allowed a run on a walk and a double in the first inning but didn’t allow any more runs in his 3⅔ innings. This was his longest in five starts by innings and pitches (59) since he sat out the first two months of the season with shoulder soreness, and he struck out his final three batters on Thursday.

Sauryn Lao threw two scoreless innings with two strikeouts as a relief pitcher.

Double-A Tulsa

Alex Freeland’s RBI double with two outs in the seventh inning broke a tie and brought the Drillers over the Amarillo (D-backs).

Jose Ramos had two hits, including an RBI single in the fourth inning that scored Tulsa’s other run.

Logan Boyer struck out three players in two scoreless innings for his fifth save of the season. The 26-year-old right-hander missed the last two years due to injury and has a 1.35 ERA with a 31.7 percent strikeout rate in 26⅔ innings this year.

High class: Great Lakes

A fifth inning decided a close game in the Loons’ defeat against the Lake County Captains (Guardians).

Josue De Paula didn’t have a hit in his first three games with Great Lakes, but he did manage four walks on Thursday, setting a Loons record, and scored two runs. De Paula also stole second base twice.

Patrick Copen went the first two innings of his High-A debut without allowing a run, but in the third he allowed two singles, two walks, two stolen bases, threw a wild pitch for two runs and was taken off the field with two outs in the inning. Copen managed three strikeouts in 2⅔ innings.

Garrett McDaniels also made his Great Lakes debut, getting the first two outs of the fifth inning with a strikeout. He was taken out of the game after a walk and a strikeout with two runs scored, but neither runner scored.

Jordan Thompson had two hits, including a two-run single in the eighth inning, and stole a base.

Kyle Nevin had two hits, including an RBI single, and a walk.

Low-A Rancho Cucamonga

The Quakes squandered a 6-0 lead and then a two-run lead in the 10th inning. lose against the Lake Elsinore Storm (Padres).

Jeral Perez had three hits, including a double. Sean McLain hit his first home run of the season. Alexander Albertus hit a double, a single and scored twice in his third game with the Quakes.

Left-hander Wyatt Crowell was the starter and pitched 2⅔ scoreless innings in his second game with four starts.
