Alyve Health improves AI with $6 million Series A funding

Alyve Health, an Indian startup that offers personalized digital healthcare plans for businesses, has raised $5.5 million in a Series A funding round led by Axilor Ventures. The round also included participation from 1Crowd Fund, InHealth Ventures and Trifecta Capital.

Founded in 2020, the startup offers customized, comprehensive healthcare plans ranging from prevention to treatment, including 24/7 doctor consultations, diagnostics, medications, dental care and gym memberships. It currently offers services for over one million members through its partner insurance companies, brokers, financial institutions, clinics, diagnostic centers and fitness studios.

The startup will reportedly use its fresh funds to improve its data, security and AI capabilities, expand operations, hire more talent and improve its services.


Huize starts expansion in Southeast Asia with acquisition of a Vietnamese insurtech company

Chinese insurance technology company Huize has acquired Vietnam-based insurtech company Global Care.

The acquisition, it is said, marks the beginning of Huize’s international expansion, starting in Southeast Asia, where markets are similar to those of China. Powered by AI and data analytics, Huize’s insurtech platform connects consumers, insurers and insurance distributors. It offers a range of technology-enabled insurance solutions, including insurance advisory, customer loyalty, marketing, risk management and claims services.

Founded in 2017, Global Care offers a range of cloud API solutions that help insurers streamline and digitize their sales processes, operations and policy administration. Its mobile apps connect insurers with merchants and various distribution channels such as Grab and Ahamove, offering a wide range of insurance products to a diverse customer base.

Huize will acquire a majority stake in Global Care through its global subsidiary Poni Insurtech and later acquire it as one of its subsidiaries.


JLK is the first to receive US FDA approval for AI solution

South Korean medical AI company JLK recently received regulatory approval in the US for its AI solution for diagnosing prostate cancer.

It received 510(k) clearance for MEDIHUB Prostate, which uses AI to analyze MRI scans of the prostate and determine prostate-specific antigen levels. The AI ​​software was developed through clinical trials with Seoul Asan Medical Center in South Korea and the University of Missouri in the US.

This is the first of five regulatory submissions JLK has submitted to the U.S. FDA this year.


Online CBT alleviates mental health problems of Hong Kong university students

A two-year study at a Hong Kong university has found that an internet-based cognitive behavioral therapy (iCBT) program is effective in alleviating mental health problems among students.

Researchers led by Dr. Pan Jiayan, Associate Professor in the Department of Social Work at Hong Kong Baptist University, tested the iCBT program REST Online to address the growing mental health problems of university students in Hong Kong amid the lack of professional support in the city during the recent pandemic.

The 10-week self-study program includes eight online modules that include CBT skills instruction and debriefing, case study videos, and online assignments and assessments. It also includes two counseling sessions with a therapist, conducted in person or online.

Results The results of the study, published in the journal Research on Social Work Practice, showed that after completing the program, participants showed a “significant” reduction in psychological distress, depressive and anxiety symptoms, and negative thoughts and emotions. Their positive thoughts and emotions also increased significantly. The online sessions also showed a “steady” improvement in participants’ mood.
