High school musicians share their love of music

Music is the universal language that has an inexplicable effect on virtually everyone, no matter how young or old.

Solis and Luna Arts is an organization with offices around the world with a common goal.

“It’s like providing music to those who normally can’t get up and go to a concert hall,” said chapter organizer Jason Samuels.

They are a group of high school students from different schools and backgrounds who come together to share their love of music.

“So I just asked my friends if they wanted to play for people in nursing homes or for people who are in a difficult situation and are not able to go to a concert hall, and they said, ‘Sure,'” Samuels said.

“I was there right away, without hesitation,” said musician Dylan Hoang. “Music has always been a passion for me and it has helped me a lot. I love listening to music, so I just want to help others and experience what I can experience with music,”

Since they are busy high school students, there isn’t much time for practice, but these kids are pretty pros.

“We all come here, warm up for about thirty minutes and then we perform,” Samuels said.

Although the audience usually says little, their actions show their appreciation.

“They were singing along and tapping their feet,” said Katie Dickey of Legacy Senior Living.

“Music is a great way to reach into the soul of those who cannot communicate effectively due to a disability or a chronic illness such as dementia,” Dickey said.

It’s a great time for the audience and just as entertaining for the students. “I hope it continues and honestly brightens people’s day,” Samuels said.

The group is taking a break over the summer but will be performing again in the fall. To contact them, email [email protected]
