Art for everyone: Baumgartner will be shown with his new book on Saturday | News, Sports, Jobs


THE COVER OF Nick Baumgartner’s recently released memoir, “Gold From Iron: A Humble Beginning, Olympic Dreams, and the Power in Getting Back Up.” The 2022 Olympic mixed snowboard cross champion from Iron County will be at the Art for All show at Iron Mountain’s City Park on Saturday with copies of the book.

IRON MOUNTAIN – Olympic snowboard champion Nick Baumgartner will appear at the Art for All event at City Park in Iron Mountain on Saturday to promote his new book.

The annual “An affair of the arts” The event is sponsored by the Dickinson County Council for the Arts and runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

He sells copies of “Gold from Iron: A humble beginning, Olympic dreams and the strength to get back up.”

About a month after the Bates Township native won the long-awaited gold medal in the snowboard cross mixed team with Lindsey Jacobellis – he had already competed in three Olympic Games before the 2022 Games in Zhangjiakou, China – his PR team contacted sports agent Carrie Goldberg Trutanich of Hermosa Beach, California, to see if there was interest in writing a book about Baumgartner’s story.

Baumgartner teamed up with Detroit Free Press sports columnist Jeff Seidel to bring his life story to the public, published by Triumph Books in Chicago and released on Jan. 9.

It contains stories about snowboarding, fishing, surfing, hardships and sacrifices one must make to be successful, and lighthearted stories about his family. The book is intended to appeal to everyone from the world famous to the small-town kid in the UP.

Baumgartner was busy promoting his book and giving lectures across the country.

The juried art exhibition features a wide variety of art for sale, including original paintings, photographs, glass, wood, fiber, metal and jewelry.

There will also be live entertainment throughout the afternoon.

A “The best picnic ever” is provided by the Bishop Baraga Knights of Columbus.

A silent auction raises money for a local final-year art student.

Participants can win $50 to spend at the art exhibition, which will take place at 11 a.m. and at 1 and 2 p.m.

The community is encouraged to come and view the works of local and regional artists.
