The wife of Imagine Dragons singer Dan Reynolds announces that the estranged couple have reconciled

Imagine Dragons frontman Dan Reynolds and his estranged wife Aja Volkman are giving their marriage another chance.

After announcing their split in April last year, Volkman, 31, revealed that she and Reynolds, 31, are working on a “rebuild.”

“I am so proud of you @danreynolds. I am proud of your humility and your ability to still show up as the basketball coach and baby-loving dad that you are,” Volkman wrote in an emotional message shared on Instagram on Tuesday.

The post came just a day after Reynolds faced criticism for abruptly cutting short his performance during a singing routine at the College Football Playoff halftime show in San Francisco on Monday night — the cause, he later explained, was a sinus infection.

“I know it’s been a crazy path. It’s killed us both in so many moments,” Volkman continued. “Last year we killed each other and now we’re rebuilding. In the eye of a giant storm, you can become your worst self. You almost have to. It’s a rite of passage. It’s the only path to a better existence. To a more mature sense of self.”

“An honest, unflinching willingness to die a million deaths just to be honest. That’s what we did. And now. Honesty. That’s all we need. Keep ripping off the Band-Aid, baby. I’ll do it with you. I’ll get through it and enjoy every minute,” Volkman concluded the post.

Next to the note was a photo of Reynolds sitting at the kitchen counter staring at his phone.

The couple, who married in 2011, have three children together – one-year-old twin girls Gia James and Coco Rae and five-year-old daughter Arrow.

In September, Reynolds admitted that the separation from Volkman had taken a toll on her children.

“I have three little girls and this year has been a pretty difficult year for my family for personal and emotional reasons,” Reynolds previously told PEOPLE. “Going through all of this and seeing the impact on my girls has been very hard on me.”

Earlier this month, Volkman shared a blurry photo of herself and Reynolds kissing on New Year’s Day, writing, “2019 is starting off well at least.”
