UAW strike officially ended after agreement with university | Administration

Academic Fellow at UC The UAW 4811 strike against the UC system has officially ended after the union and the university agreed to extend an injunction against strike activity until June 30.

The agreement was negotiated on June 25, just five days before the end of the UAW’s strike call – originally set for June 30 – with the UC withdrawing its request for a temporary injunction against all union strike activity in exchange for ending the strike through the extended injunction.. The 20-day temporary restraining order was originally granted on June 7 by a state Supreme Court in Answer to a breach of contract lawsuit filed by the university against the union.

According to a news release from the university, the court will continue to review the arguments in the lawsuit, with the next hearing scheduled for Nov. 8. The unfair labor practice charges against the UAW and the UC system are also currently under review by the state Public Employment Relations Board.

“While we are relieved that this strike is over, we continue to want clarity that our no-strike clauses are enforceable and that we can rely on our contracts to provide labor peace during the term of our agreements and support UC’s ability to provide critical academic and research services to our community,” Missy Matella, assistant vice president for systemwide employee and labor relations, said in the release.
