Corey Taylor says Eloy Casagrande was the only drummer “brave enough” to meet with Slipknot

There’s been a lot of time to think about Slipknot’s hiring of ex-Sepultura drummer Eloy Casagrande to replace Jay Weinberg, and it seems like the overwhelming majority think he’s a perfect fit. The guy is just awesome behind the drums, as evidenced by all the insane performance videos doing the rounds online.

When speaking with revolverSinger Corey Taylor went into a little more detail about the selection process, explaining that although most of the candidates chose to send videos to the band rather than meet them in person, Casagrande was really the only one who took on the challenge.

“I think we just said, ‘You know what? Let’s just tell people.’ It was really that simple, you know? Eloy was the only one brave enough to come in the room with us. We had a handful of other people in mind, and none of them wanted to jam with us. They just wanted to do their own thing and send it in — kind of a typical TikTok thing, you know? And we were like, ‘That’s not how it works, dude.'”

“Eloy rearranged his schedule to come see us. He was so eager to jam and just see what would happen that we were immediately impressed by that alone. He didn’t get it right away – getting to know him was just as important as jamming with him – but once we made that decision, we thought, ‘Let’s tell the world now. He deserves it.’ Our audience is used to us not showing our hand, but for me it was more refreshing to just come out and say, ‘Yeah, he’s our guy.'”

Can you imagine getting a call from a big band like Slipknot and thinking, “Nah, I’ll just send a video.” What?! You get selected by Slipknot as a potential candidate and miss out on the opportunity of a lifetime?! Yuck.

Well, I’d say it all worked out for the best. Weinberg is jamming with Suicidal Tendencies, former Suicidal Tendencies drummer Greyson Nekrutman is now playing with Sepultura, and Casagrande is playing with Slipknot. Seems like a win-win-win for everyone.

If you want to see Casagrande live with Slipknot on drums, then we have good news: there are plenty of live shows coming up throughout the rest of the year. The band are celebrating the 25th anniversary of their debut album, so you have a really good chance of seeing them live at some point.
