CJ Stroud of the Houston Texans surpasses Jordan Love of the Green Bay Packers in the latest rankings

CJ Stroud of the Houston Texans surpasses Jordan Love of the Green Bay Packers in the latest rankings

Time for controversy: Jordan Love is a little overrated. The young Green Bay Packers player had a rocky start to 2023 but finished well, throwing for 4,100 yards and 31 touchdowns. Solid numbers, but his tape told a different story. He was inconsistent in the first half of the season, completing less than 60% of his passes in most games. But Love got better as the competition got easier and he faced more losing teams and teams that made the playoffs with ease.

It could have been a natural progression. Maybe he was just a better quarterback. Or maybe he had a season where he had to put up with more distractions. More like Daniel Jones or Case Keenum. If that’s the case, the Packers are in big trouble. If not, they’ve found their third quarterback in 30 years who is a regular Pro Bowl prospect.

Still, Love is one of the most overrated players in my opinion right now, so it doesn’t surprise me at all to see CJ Stroud ahead of Love in a new ranking. CBS released its top 25 players under 25 and although Stroud was way too low (9th), he was higher than Love and San Francisco 49ers player Brock Purdy.

Stroud was the highest-rated quarterback. Considering he’s only 22 and this is only his second season, it’s very likely that Stroud will be at the top of this list in 2025. After all, Stroud had one of the most effective rookie seasons ever, throwing just four interceptions and leading his team to an AFC South championship and a playoff win.

That makes his Pro Bowl selection all the more exciting. Stroud has one of the best offenses around him in 2024 and the excitement is incredible. This upcoming roster is perhaps the most anticipated in Texans history. That’s not a criticism of other seasons either. It just shows how much potential this team has.

Love could turn out to be a really good quarterback, and we’re certainly not against him. We’re just aware of the fact that Stroud was consistently a top-five quarterback in the AFC week in and week out last season. We can’t say the same for Love in the NFC.
