Holland Taylor and Ana Villafañe star in N/A

Read reviews of the world premiere of Mario Correa’s new play N/A, starring Emmy Award winner and Tony and Drama Desk Award nominee Holland Taylor and Ana Villafañe.

Taylor and Villafañe return to the stage as two congresswomen separated by generations in this new play about power, politics and the perilous path to progress. N/A is a battle of wills – and wits – between N, the first female Speaker of the House, and A, the youngest woman ever elected to Congress. Inspired by real people and events, N/A shines a light on the person many consider the most powerful woman in American history… and the political talent that stood up to her in this generation.

The creative team includes Myung Hee Cho (set and costume design), Mextly Couzin (lighting design), Sun Hee Kil (sound design), POSSIBLE, Lisa Renkel (projection design) and casting is by Telsey & Co- Will Cantler, CSA.

N/A is produced by Jeffrey Richards, Louise Gund, Bob Boyett, Broadway Breakfast Club, Kathleen K. Johnson, Brenda Boone, Patrick W. Jones, Jones, Maia Kayla Glasman and Brandon J. Schwartz.

Although the production is running at the Mitzi E. Newhouse, it is not a Lincoln Center Theater production.

Review Summary: Holland Taylor and Ana Villafañe Star in N/A
David Finkle, New York Stage Review: Democrats, sit down. Sit down with great anticipation. Playwright Mario Correa has a hot partisan entertainment for you, which is succinctly called N/A. And before any more information is shared, be aware that N/A does not stand for “Not Acceptable.” Certainly not unacceptable for Democrats, but maybe, just maybe, for Republicans. For Democrats, N/A is so acceptable that it approaches, if not meets and exceeds, cheering levels.

Frank Scheck, New York Stage Review: Under Diane Paulus’s straightforward direction, both actresses deliver excellent performances, with the experienced Taylor extracting every bit of humor from N’s sarcastic remarks and Villafañe capturing A’s fervent idealism. While N/A ultimately lacks the thematic depth or resonance to make it a truly great play, it is a vivid reminder that the art of politics can indeed be more than name-calling.

Jonathan Mandell, New York Theater: “N/A” may not be a political play for the ages. As the playwright himself admits, it is only “lightly contrived.” It goes nowhere. The ending seems almost arbitrary. Nothing is really resolved. But isn’t that exactly where we are now?
