Andrew Wiggins and Chris Paul are being “aggressively considered” for trades

The Warriors may be considering a roster move after missing the playoffs in 2024.

Andrew Wiggins is being “aggressively pursued” on the transfer market, while the Warriors are also looking for a suitor for Chris Paul, The Ringer reported this week.

These two key pieces of the Warriors puzzle, along with the potential departure of Klay Thompson as a free agent, mean a potential new era for Golden State.

It could be difficult for the Warriors to trade Paul and Wiggins as they face significant salary cap pressures in the 2024-25 season.

Wiggins, in particular, may have one of the worst contracts in the NBA, as the 29-year-old is in the second year of a four-year deal worth $109 million.

The Canadian-born player, selected No. 1 in the 2014 draft, has missed several games in two seasons for “personal reasons.” In November, ESPN reported that some in the organization were “upset” about his physical condition.

Wiggins averaged 13.2 points per game in the 2023-24 season, the lowest of his career, and his field goal percentage (45.3 percent) was his worst since 2019.

Assuming he exercises his fully guaranteed player option after next season, he is expected to receive an average of $28.19 million per year through 2027.

Paul’s contract for this season does not guarantee the $30 million he is set to earn in the 2024-25 season because there is a $5 million opt-out clause the Warriors can invoke to avoid paying the huge contract.

The Warriors hope to replace that salary with a player who better fits their needs and schedule.

It seems that Stephen Curry and Draymond Green could soon be the last survivors of the Warriors dynasty.
