Michigan State secures the commitment of a 3-star defensive lineman from the state

The Michigan State University football team continues to strengthen its next recruiting class in a crucial month.

Derrick Simmons, a three-star defensive tackle from Frankenmuth High School who will join the squad in 2025, announced his commitment to the Spartans via social media on Thursday night, becoming the fourth new addition to their class in the last three days.

Michigan State now has 14 players committed to the 2025 class and they are all three-star prospects. Simmons is the sixth in-state recruit in the group.

At 6-foot-3, 270 pounds, Simmons is listed by 247Sports as the No. 9 player in Michigan and the No. 65 defensive player in the 2025 class, but does not yet have a composite ranking. He has offers in the double digits, including from Cincinnati, Purdue, Illinois, Boston College and Northwestern. He is also a standout thrower in track and field.

Michigan State’s other 13 new recruits in the class of 2025 include quarterback Leo Hannan, linebackers Charles White and Di’Mari Malone, running back Jace Clarizio, tight ends Jayden Savoury and Emmett Bork, receivers Braylon Collier and Charles Taplin, cornerbacks George Mullins and Aydan West, defensive lineman Cal Thrush and offensive linemen Justin Bell and Drew Nichols.
