3 reasons not to panic about the Yankees after their Subway Series win

The New York Yankees were the best team in baseball, becoming the first MLB team to reach 50 wins in mid-June, but then they faltered and have struggled to win since.

A lot of things have gone wrong for the Yankees over the last two weeks. Anthony Rizzo and Giancarlo Stanton landed on the injured list. Jasson Dominguez landed back on the injured list, which prevented him from being called up during Stanton’s absence.

Apart from the top three, the lineup hasn’t produced anything. The bullpen has problems. The starting pitcher has been weak in recent starts.

These difficulties were clearly visible in the New York Mets’ Subway Series victory over the Yankees. While the Yankees came within two runs on Tuesday night thanks to a grand slam from Aaron Judge, Wednesday night was brutal.

The Mets beat the Yankees 12-2 in the second game of the series. It was a series full of strikeouts and grounding in double plays. No one except Anthony Volpe, Juan Soto and Judge can get the job done.

Despite their struggles over the last ten games, the Yankees are still in first place in the AL East, largely due to the Baltimore Orioles’ recent slump.

The Yankees still have a lot of work to do, but they can get out of this slump and get back to playing exciting baseball. Here are three reasons not to panic about the Yankees.

Good teams go through tough times, but that doesn’t mean they can’t get through it. A few players in the lineup can get back into their stride, the pitching rotation can get some solid starts, and suddenly the Yankees look like a playoff-caliber team again. Some players in the lineup aren’t performing as well as they should right now, but that can change.

The Yankees need players who hit 4-9 to contribute. Judge is still hitting home runs, but the truth is that the Yankees’ lineup without Stanton gives teams no reason to pitch Soto and Judge. If players further back in the lineup start hitting, Soto and Judge will see more pitches and have more opportunities to do their thing.

Alex Verdugo will soon be out of his slump. DJ LeMahieu will not be back to batting form at his age, but he can’t be this bad forever, can he? Aaron Boone is giving Gleyber Torres a few days to recover.

Ben Rice should get more playing time to show what he can do. Oswaldo Cabrera has struggled at the plate, but he can be inconsistent and he may be in for another hot at-bat. The hope is that these players can contribute more and help the team get out of this slump.
