Northport needs your help in developing its safety action plan

By WVUA 23 News Reporter Paislee Roberts

The City of Northport is developing a safety action plan for transportation networks, including streets and pedestrian facilities, with the goal of creating safer streets and intersections.

Before the plan goes into effect in early 2025, Northport officials want to gather feedback from citizens and people who regularly drive through Northport.

There is an online survey where you can give your opinion. It covers construction sites, traffic congestion, unsafe intersections and the lack of zebra crossings. The survey is open until August.

Once feedback is collected, Northport city leaders will create a plan to improve key issues. They expect to receive grant money from the Federal Highway Administration next year that will help fund future projects.

“A fence or a better pedestrian sign and crosswalk would be better. This crosswalk rarely says ‘walk,’ and when it does happen, it happens very quickly. You barely have 15 seconds, and at such a busy intersection, it takes longer,” said Kaylyn Madahbee, an employee in historic downtown Northport.

Would you like to complete the survey? You can do so right here.
