PENN STATE UNIVERSITY TEAMSTERS VOTE FOR STRIKE AUTHORIZATION

2,500 employees at over 20 locations demand a strong collective agreement

STATE COLLEGE, Pa., 27 June 2024 /PRNewswire/ — Teamsters at Penn State University voted overwhelmingly for a strike. The overwhelming vote allows the bargaining committee to call a strike if Penn State refuses to offer employees a good contract.

“It is long overdue Penn State seriously consider offering the essential Teamsters a contract that includes fair pay and working conditions,” said Jonathan LightPresident of Teamsters Local 8. “We don’t want to strike, but it seems the university doesn’t believe we are serious about our demands. This overwhelming strike vote should send a clear message that WE are willing to strike for what we deserve.”

The 2,500 employees of Penn Staterepresented by Local 8, work in the areas of janitorial services, emergency medicine, hospitality, housing, trades, science, sports, agriculture, research, printing, engineering, transportation, airport services, ITS and media at University Park and more than 20 Commonwealth campuses in Pennsylvania.
