Tiffany brought an extraordinary voice and zero effects to Summerfest

Tiffany brought an extraordinary voice and zero effects to Summerfest

At exactly 3:30 p.m., Tiffany walked onto the BMO Pavilion stage at Summerfest, dropped her shoulder bag to the floor, and stepped up to the microphone. “You guys ready to rock?” she asked casually.

Tiffany – born Tiffany Darwish in 1971 – is best known for her 1987 cover of “I Think We’re Alone Now”. She hasn’t made it to the top of the charts for decades, but her singing talent is unmatched.

Accompanied by a guitarist, keyboardist and electronic drum kit, Tiffany belted out 10 songs without missing a note. Still sporting her signature long red hair – though it’s no longer curled – she wore a black fringe dress with a flowing overcoat. Towards the end of the show, she mentioned her iconic denim jacket look, adding that she never felt comfortable in denim and pastel colors, but that it was a decision made by the higher-ups.

“But I liked my perms,” she told the crowd that filled about a third of the BMO’s seats on that sunny, windy Thursday afternoon.

It must be incredibly difficult at times to still be compared to her famous 15-year-old self at 52. But Tiffany seems to take it in her stride. She is also clearly confident in the power and precision of her voice and wants to have fun on stage while interacting with her fans.

Tiffany rose to prominence in 1987 when she embarked on a shopping mall tour supporting her number one hit “I Think We’re Alone Now,” originally recorded by Tommy James and The Shondells in 1967. She recorded five studio albums and two records of cover songs from the 1980s.

Tiffany has sold more than 15 million records to date.

In addition to music, Tiffany has also made a number of quirky public statements, including posing nude for Playboy, appearing on numerous reality TV shows such as Hulk Hogan’s Celebrity Championship Wrestling, and acting in a number of cheesy horror films. She also appeared in a national AT&T commercial with Meat Loaf and was cast in an episode of How I Met Your Mother.

So Tiffany, who lives in Nashville, Tennessee, has no shortage of unique life experiences, a keen sense of humor, and a stunning voice. She is currently on a tour that began in the Midwest and continues through the United Kingdom, California, and Canada, ending in Staten Island in November.

She also started an online cooking show called “Let’s Food With Tiffany.”

“It’s been more than 30 years (since her No. 1 single), but I still feel like I’m growing as a person,” she said.
