Nixon Lions Club and Mr. B present a fireworks display on July 5

From the employee reports

The skies over Nixon will light up on Friday, July 5, when the Nixon Lions Club and Mr. B Fireworks present the annual Nixon Fireworks Show on Independence Day, July 4th weekend.

This year’s free event will begin at 9:15 p.m. at the Nixon-Smiley High School baseball field as these two organizations have agreed to continue presenting this great event, made possible by the support, help and donations of numerous civic groups, businesses, and individuals and families.

According to the Lions Club, “No money was requested from the city, school, police and fire departments. However, we are grateful for their support in providing the venue, raising public awareness and public safety. 100% of the funds raised will go towards continuing the annual fireworks show in Nixon. These groups and individuals are not necessarily doing this to support the Lions Club; they are doing this for our community.”

Additional sponsors include Janicek Insurance; Nixon-Smiley Education Foundation; Camp House Concerts; Nixon-Smiley Livestock Show; La Enchiladita; Pioneer BBQ; Rancho Nixon Historic Association; Lazarus Energy; Alamo Lumber; Jack Rogers Electric; Third Coast Bank; Caraway Ford; Pat’s Beauty Parlor; Chief Mike Cantu & Michele James; The Honorable Ellie Dominguez, Mayor of the City of Nixon; Collie Boatright, Gonzales County Commissioner Precinct 4; Jeff & Anita VanAuken; Kenny & Lydia Alvis; The Honorable Patsy Scherer, Nixon City Councilor; The Honorable Shannon Smith, Nixon City Councilor; The Honorable Justin La Fleur, Nixon City Councilor; Sheila & Emilio Delva; and Bluebonnet Finance.

The Nixon Volunteer Fire Department provides oversight and fire prevention, Nixon-Smiley CISD provides the facility, the City of Nixon provides information board and social media support, and the Nixon Police Department provides public safety.
