Chris Paul’s former teammate speaks brutally honestly about the game with him

Chris Paul is one of the most polarizing players in the NBA. Many players absolutely hate him, while others would run through a wall for him. He’s not the easiest teammate to be around, but he can also be incredibly rewarding – DeAndre Jordan knows this firsthand.

On the latest episode of Wave Sports’ P podcast, DeAndre Jordan talked about his relationship with Chris Paul on the Clippers. It was often reported that the Lob City Clippers didn’t like each other, with Paul being the focus, and Jordan explained why Paul can be a controversial player.

“Man, people can say what they want about CP, but I think you want CP on your team because he’s going to fight until the siren goes off,” DeAndre said. “I think having a dog like that on your team is great to be around because he’s going to motivate you to be the best player you can be. He’s going to challenge you, and some guys don’t like to be challenged. Let’s be honest, some guys don’t like that shit.”

For DeAndre, Chris Paul may be an opponent at times, but he wants to win. So much so that he is willing to enter into confrontations that other players won’t.

“But Chris is a guy that says, ‘No, you have to be better so we can get better as a team,’ and he wants to take responsibility, which is important, especially from his point guard. Their voices need to be heard,” DeAndre said. “But Chris expected a lot from all of us, and I think that rubs people the wrong way, and I think when you’re young, you think, ‘Damn, what the hell is this?'”

One thing DeAndre Jordan regrets is that he didn’t take more advantage of his youth. There are only so many championship opportunities a player can win in his youth, and Chris Paul knew that better than anyone on the Clippers.

“I think as you get older, you start to realize and understand that guys get to a certain point and want to win a championship and then see the opportunities they had when they were younger slip away. You don’t want to see those slip away at a time when you have a great team around you,” DeAndre said. “So I’m not going to do what I did last time and be quiet and let things go. Not all leaders are popular, and that’s the problem with being a leader.”

Not every NBA player is easy to play against. If Chris Paul had won a championship in his career, the story surrounding the game with him would be completely different.
