Teofimo Lopez Walkout Song: List of entrance music used by “The Takeover” before the fight with Steve Claggett

It is a well-known fact in boxing that nobody is as verbose as Teofimo Lopez. He’s a phenomenal boxer, but you have to admit, the guy knows how to get attention. At every fight, he throws a celebration for the crowd, both before and on fight night. After a win, he dances, does a backflip, and puts on an entertaining show to cap off the occasion. He definitely knows how to sell himself. The same can be said about his walkout music.

With his elegant flair, the boxer ensures that he enters the ring with a bang. Lopez is very unique when it comes to his walkout songs. The WBO super lightweight world champion will face Steve Claggett on June 29th at the James L. Knight Center in Miami, Florida. But before that, let’s take a look at the tracks that have made his contribution stand out so far.

Jamaine Ortiz

To say Lopez is the greatest showman would be an exaggeration, but the man did come out roaring during his last fight against Jamaine Ortiz. In fact, he chose the theme song from Hugh Jackman’s film “The Greatest Showman.” There was a sword swallower, a juggler, and dancing ladies as part of the circus-themed act. “Entry of the Gladiators” by Czech composer Julius Fučík was played during this circus performance. Then came the theme song from “The Greatest Showman,” and finally “The Takeover” came out in a red and gold tailcoat with a black top hat. The music was fitting considering the event was titled “The Showman Returns.”

The fight between the New York native and the Ukrainian boxing icon in October 2020 Wassyl Lomachenko is widely considered the biggest fight of Lopez’s career. He stunned the world when he defeated the Ukrainian boxing phenomenon by unanimous decision at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Before entering the ring, Lopez put on a strong performance as he came out to “Go to Sleep” by Eminem featuring DMX and Obie Trice.

Masayoshi Nakatani

Jay-Z and Kanye West’s “Ni**as in Paris” provided the swaggering groove as The Takeover approached the ring. He appeared confident as he smiled and danced to the beats of the song while walking towards the ring. The Takeover delivered a spectacular performance, winning the fight against Masayoshi Nakatani by unanimous decision in July 2019.

The magic of Madison Square Garden for Teofimo Lopez

Josh Taylor

Before facing Ortiz, Lopez fought Josh Taylor in June of last year. Teofimo Lopez entered the ring to the beat of “Juicy” by The Notorious BIG at the Madison Square Garden Theater at MSG in his hometown of Brooklyn. The crowd was pumped and roared with excitement as Lopez put on a stunning performance, winning that fight with a one-sided unanimous decision victory.

George Kambosos Jr.

The orthodox fighter has only suffered one defeat in his career so far, by George Kambosos Jr. However, he deserves credit for his walk into the ring. Lopez entered the ring to Roy Jones Jr.’s “Y’all Must’ve Forgot II,” featuring MB3Five and SM Bullett. He stripped down and entered the ring dressed as a Spartan from Greece. The irony of this situation is that Kambosos Jr.’s parents are originally from Greece. Even Kambosos Jr. must have been surprised to see Lopez dressed as a Spartan.

Richard Comney

‘The Takeover’ chose the ideal song for his fight with Richard Commey in December 2019, which took place in his hometown at Madison Square Garden in New York. He performed to Jay Z’s ‘Empire State of Mind’ featuring Alicia Keys as the crowd swarmed the lines. “In New York, the concrete jungle that dreams are made of, there is nothing you can’t do.” The New Yorkers in the audience also celebrated and whistled when their local hero stopped Commey in the second round and won the IBF lightweight title.

You’ve probably noticed that the boxer is happiest when he gets the chance to fight in front of his home crowd at Madison Square Garden. During his fight against Edis Tatli in April 2019, he chose Frank Sinatra’s “New York New York” as his farewell song. The boy from Brooklyn danced to the ring and enjoyed the music on his way to the ring. He ended the fight with a powerful knockout punch in the fifth round.

Still, Teofimo Lopez fans are excited to see him back in action this Saturday. Which of the walkout songs listed above did you like? Or did we miss your favorite song?
