Did 4 venues cancel Taylor Swift’s planned concerts because of swear words?

On June 25, 2024, a Facebook page called America – Love It Or Leave It (ALIOLI) posted a claiming that four stadiums had canceled Taylor Swift’s “profanity-filled tour.”

The post claimed that the “Cruel Summer” singer’s attempt to sound ‘cool’ definitely backfired” and that “half of the ticket holders were children.”

The author of the post further elaborated on his claim in the comments section and added the following message:

Which four stadiums? It doesn’t matter. They don’t want their children to hear any swear words, so they cancel the shows. They don’t need the hundreds of millions of dollars in revenue for their cities that these shows usually bring in. They only care about the children. Because if they hear any swear words, they’re sure to grow up with Satan.

Some people commenting on the post seemed to agree with the alleged decision to cancel Swift’s performances. One wrote, “I’m not impressed with the changing clothes on stage. She was more decent when she was singing country. Not impressed,” while someone else responded, “Why on earth does she feel the need to use vulgar language?? She is so misguided. Prayers for her to escape the pressures of the world and stay true to her morals. It seemed like she once had some before she became so famous. It’s sad to see these entertainers get sucked into Satan’s grip.”

Other commenters were quick to deny the accusation, with one writing, “I don’t believe that,” to which another responded, “You post stuff like that but it’s a lie. Taylor Swift is as audience-conscious as an entertainer can be.”

In fact, this article was not a factual retelling of real events. It was posted by ALIOLI, a Facebook account that described its posts as “satirical”:

A subsidiary of the America’s Last Line of Defense troller network. Nothing on this site is real.

ALIOLI also described his Facebook page as “satire/parody” and stated that the account was operated by an individual known as “Busta Troll.”

While the false claim about Swift’s canceled concerts did not specify the location or venue of these alleged cancellations, ALIOLI posted it on June 25, when the singer was in the UK to perform three nights at Wembley Arena from June 21-23 as part of her international Eras Tour. She next scheduled three concert appearances in Dublin in late June before continuing her summer tour of Europe and Canada. Swift’s next U.S. concert leg of the Eras Tour was scheduled to begin in Miami on October 18.

Swift’s latest album, 2024’s The Tortured Poets Department, is reportedly her most vulgar yet, containing a total of 57 swear words, an apparent 5,600% increase in swear words since the release of her self-titled debut album in 2006.

Snopes addressed a separate satirical claim by ALLOD in a June 3, 2024, article regarding the Screen Actors Guild’s expulsion of actor Robert De Niro.

As background information, here is why we sometimes write about satire/humor.
