Yankees sign new pitcher after Yoendrys Gómez cleans up Subway Series finale

After wearing it for a few innings against the Mets on Wednesday night, Yoendrys Gómez learned that he would not be traveling to Toronto with the Yankees.

Instead, Gómez was sent to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Thursday. The Yankees brought back fellow right-hander Jake Cousins ​​in his place.

Gómez, who is considered the Yankees’ 17thth– MLB.com’s top prospect, earned a few extra days on the major league roster after resting the team’s bullpen with 4.2 scoreless innings against the Braves on June 21. With Gómez out, the Yankees needed a fresh pitcher. And that’s where Cousins ​​comes in.

Kirk Cousins’ cousin was signed by the White Sox earlier this season and allowed three runs (one earned) in three major league innings with the Yankees. He has pitched in just seven games at Triple-A after spending time on the minor league injured list earlier this season.
