The memorial honors the brave men and women who gave their lives in defense of freedom during operations known as the Global War on Terror. The renewed memorial, which features the names of 7,054 fallen U.S. service members, including 129 Wisconsin service members and 12 individuals from Racine, Kenosha and Rock counties, was immortalized on the Capitol grounds. The memorial will serve as a permanent reminder of the sacrifice of brave Americans and a place of comfort for all visitors to the Capitol.

“Our brave men and women deserve to be honoured and remembered for their great sacrifice – this memorial will ensure that this is the case,” said Steil“The memorial honors the Wisconsin soldiers along with all Americans who gave their lives for freedom.”

NOTE: Steil led the committee’s work with the Department of Defense to obtain a list of American soldiers, their units and ranks to honor their sacrifice in service to the United States.
