The Calamatix release single “Love Lies and Alibis”

The Calamatix, the newest band in the Hellcat Records family, have released their new single “Love Lies and Alibis” and announced their debut album of the same name.

Given the mix of the cheekiness of punk and the smooth uptempo rhythms of Jamaican ska, it’s no surprise that “Love Lies and Alibis” was co-written by singer Raylin Joy with Tim Armstrong, Lil Aaron and Albert Hype (Bad Bunny, Kali Uchis).

The single’s lyrics are about the emotional rollercoaster of life and, according to the band, cover “the good, the bad, the ugly and the sad”. “Working through relationships and friendships, even when you’re going through it. We all just have to keep going, through the love, lies and alibis of life.”

The Calamatix are a reggae and punk-influenced quartet led by seductive vocalist Raylin Joy and rounded out by guitarist Adam Porris, bassist William “Matty” Taylor and drummer Clarence “Pocket” Kidd III. Their debut album – out September 20 – harnesses the joyful energy and uplifting sounds of Jamaican rocksteady and old school ska for a collection of universally relatable, triumphant songs about love and life.
