Almost Famous founder opens new SuperAwesomeDeluxe burger concept bar in Northern Quarter
The founder of cult burger restaurant Almost Famous has announced plans for a new super burger takeaway concept in Manchester. It’s called SuperAwesomeDeluxe and will take over the premises of the former Lono Cove bar on Thomas Street.
The late-night eatery serves ultra-smashed burgers as a fast-food option, but only serves limited quantities each day to “maintain quality.”
Owner Beau Myers opened Almost Famous in Manchester’s Northern Quarter in 2012, pioneering the city’s dirty burger trend and causing queues around the block of hungry diners eager to get in.

Beau now says he “invented the best burger I’ve ever made” when he launched his new spin-off company, SuperAwesomeDeluxe.
He is launching a crowdfunding campaign to raise an additional £50,000 on top of his own investment to get the company off the ground, which is set to launch in July.
Beau told the MEN: “I promise you, it’s the best burger I’ve ever made and eaten – it’s going to blow people away.”
Beau took to social media earlier this month to announce the new project and explain how he came up with the idea in the wake of his own mental health struggles.
He says: “It was created during lockdown – ironically, it was supposed to be called ‘SAD Burger’ and only be a pop-up shop for a week – but it’s so damn good it has to stay forever.
“I’m trying to get rid of my depression so we can get rid of the SAD, and it’s just great. I’ve always had problems with my mental health – I suffer from a form of borderline personality disorder, which can be my superpower and also my curse – manic bouts of creativity balanced by crippling self-doubt and anxiety.”
He adds: “It feels so good to be doing something new and fresh again – even if a little scary. I’m not looking for pity. I know everyone struggles in some way and I don’t want people to think I’m not capable – I want to show that you can be broken but still be great at the same time.”
Beau worked with renowned local butcher Lee “Frosty” Frost to find the right blend of beef for the burgers. He says, “It’s like no burger you’ve ever had before.”
“If you’ve never had a real Ultra-Smashed Burger, they take super tender, juicy beef and press it very thin on a blazing hot grill. We use a new technique to keep all the pieces crispy and the middle super juicy.
“They’re so cheeky and so tasty and exactly what Manchester and the world needs right now. We make fresh sauces and our own pickles, even cut our own fried potatoes straight from the potato. And we keep the quantities in check each day to ensure the quality is always the best.”
The crowdfunding appeal is set to launch in July and Beau says it will also help “build a sense of community” to encourage people to get involved in the journey.
Details have not been revealed yet, but there will be an opportunity to raise funds in the form of “rewards” for backers, as well as a chance to be among the first to try the SuperAwesomeDeluxe burgers when it opens.
It is hoped that the burger bar will be ready to open by the end of the summer.
