Pro-life song “I Was Gonna Be” shoots into the country charts

A pro-life song by singer Rachel Holt storms the music charts within a few days.

Holt’s song “I Was Gonna Be” was released on June 21, just before the second anniversary of the Dobbs v. Jackson – Women’s Health Organization Decision that was repealed Roe v. Wade.

The song, released by Patriot Mobile, was written by Nashville songwriter Chris Wallin, who has previously worked with country superstars such as Garth Brooks and Kenny Chesney. Wallin wrote the song from the perspective of a baby who never had the chance to be born. “I just wanted people to hear the voice of the voiceless,” he said in a Patriot Mobile press release.

Wallin originally didn’t think anyone would have the courage to sing the song, but Holt did it – despite being warned about the possible attacks she might face because of it.

Patriot Mobile sponsored the song. “We got a call that we needed a sponsor for this pro-life song, and it was a perfect fit with our beliefs about the sanctity of life,” said Glenn Story, CEO of Patriot Mobile. “It’s really a beautiful song and we need more conservative messages in the arts as the music industry is a very important part of today’s culture war.”

The song quickly became a hit. Holt excitedly posted on X (formerly known as Twitter) that it had hit number one on the iTunes Country Music Video chart. It also became the fifth most-listened-to country song on iTunes.

All I wanted was a chance

Learning to love, laugh and dance

But I was gone before I arrived

Sent back to heaven on a starlight flight

Yes, I wanted to change the world

I wanted to be a girl

The first thing I wanted to do

Was to breathe and fall in love with you

Holt and Wallin appeared on Timcast IRL to talk about the song. “When he first showed me the song, I immediately got goosebumps,” Holt said. “It’s kind of just a song from the baby’s point of view.”

Wallin added: “Everyone talks about the other side, but never about the actual baby. I just wanted to give that baby a voice, and that’s what I did.”
