One of the projects entitled “Flash flood,” is a crime thriller based on the screenplay of Daniel Pyne’s Debut novel Twentynine Palms. Pyne is known for his work on The Manchurian Candidate and Bosch. His novel may be adapted by Brian Townsley. Talks are at an advanced stage with Townsley, a prolific noir writer who is on the 2019 Best American Mystery Stories Distinguished List.

Three other projects are based on books by Deanne Stillman:

Desert Reckoning: From the pages of Rolling Stone: the true story of a cop, a hermit and a manhunt, adapted by Chris Rossi (“Meadowland”).

Mustang: LA Times “best book of the year” about a wild horse massacre, adapted by Maggie Greenwald (“The Ballad of Little Jo”).

Twenty-nine palm trees: Gripping cult classic about a double murder with Hunter Thompson as an advocate.
To highlight what Twentynine Palms has to offer for film production, the festival launched “Shoot in 29 Palms” last year. This initiative showcases stories from the festival that are ideal for filming in and around Twentynine Palms.

The desert city offers a unique setting, diverse landscapes, local production talent and proximity to LA, making it an excellent filming location.

A selection of books that are ready for film adaptation will be presented at the upcoming Twentynine Palms Book Festival on November 8th and 9th. Film, television and documentary executives, screenwriters and agents interested in fresh ideas will receive the list of selected books in advance and can meet the authors at the festival.

The closing party of the festival, “Hollywood meets the desertat Mas o Menos, provides a relaxed setting to network and celebrate with these executives, writers and local production talent.
