Chris Wallace’s astonishing claim about Trump’s debate strategy makes CNN commentator laugh

CNN’s Chris Wallace said Donald Trump wanted to be “nice and respectful” at Thursday’s presidential debate, which drew hearty laughter from CNN special correspondent Jamie Gangel. (Watch the video below.)

Wallace told the other panelists what he had heard from the former president’s staff before his verbal confrontation with President Joe Biden on the news channel.

The former Fox News anchor moderated the 2020 debate, which was marred by Trump’s numerous interruptions – which he believes cost Trump the election.

“Has he learned his lesson?” Wallace said Wednesday. “I’ve spoken to a lot of people in the upper echelons of his staff. They say he finally understands how poorly he did in the 2020 debate. And the two words that come out – which you don’t usually hear from the Trump camp – are ‘nice’ and ‘respectful.'”

Gangel turned to the other panelists and laughed loudly, while Wallace insisted that this was Trump’s strategy. “He has every intention of not making the same mistake,” Wallace said.

Gangel, who could be heard giggling again as her colleague continued his analysis, scoffed at this idea.

“I think Mr. Nice will last a few minutes,” Gangel said. “I can’t imagine us getting through 90 minutes without Trump being Trump.”

Fast forward to minute 55 to see Wallace’s giggle-inducing rendition:
