We’re more than halfway through the Detroit Free Press/Metro Detroit Chevy Dealers’ Top 10 Takeover dinner series, and some of the highest-ranked restaurants on our list of the 10 best new restaurants and dining experiences of 2024 are just around the corner.

Next up: Coeur, the new American restaurant from Ferndale that topped our list, will host Free Press guests for an evening showcasing what earned the hotspot the No. 1 spot.

On July 16, chef-owner Jordan Smith and pastry chef Carla Spicuzzi will prepare two four-course tasting menus—a classic menu and a vegetarian option—each embodying the restaurant’s sophisticated approach to California cuisine with a French flair.

Here, guests can sample Smith’s penchant for using simple, seasonal produce, such as asparagus with Benyuls vinaigrette, braised beef rib with Jerusalem artichoke, purslane and okonomiyaki, or a Japanese pancake made with a mix of summer vegetables. Spicuzzi rounds off the meal on a sweet note, with a stone fruit tart topped with vanilla mousse and ginger sable.

Admission to the July dinner is $85 per person, including tax, gratuity and a donation to Forgotten Harvest, a local nonprofit organization working to address food insecurity in the Detroit area. Together, the Detroit Free Press, Metro Detroit Chevy Dealers and guests of the Top 10 Takeover events have raised more than $15,000 for Forgotten Harvest since the dinner series began in 2014.

Tickets go on sale for Free Press subscribers at noon June 27 and for the general public at noon June 28. For more information, visit freep.com/top10. A sample menu is below.
