CJ Stroud will love the Houston Texans’ WR rankings in PFF

Although it was only quarterback CJ Stroud’s first year in the NFL, the potential he showed with the Houston Texans was very promising. At the same time, the team’s wide receiver unit is also developing into a talented unit, as the latest rankings from PFF show.

The Texans’ 2023 season was marked by significant progress and milestones. Led by rookie head coach DeMeco Ryans and Stroud, the team made a splash by qualifying for the playoffs for the first time since 2019.

Despite a slow start, the Texans fought back and finished the regular season with a 10-7 record, clinching the AFC South division title. Stroud’s outstanding performance earned him NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year honors, while transfer defensive end Will Anderson Jr. was named Defensive Rookie of the Year.

The team’s success was based on a combination of strategic player selection and the implementation of an innovative player evaluation metric, the “T Shoe Index.” This analytically driven approach provided valuable insights that the Texans used to optimize their roster and game plan.

While the Texans’ playoff run ended in the divisional round, the 2023 season laid a solid foundation for the franchise’s future. Looking ahead to 2024, the focus is on continuing to refine the T Shoe Index and develop their talented young core, with the goal of building on this year’s successes and moving further forward in the postseason.

The Houston Texans wide receiver corps makes it into the top 5 of the latest PFF rankings ahead of the 2024 NFL season

In addition to Stroud’s performance, the Texans’ WR unit also performed admirably last season. In an article by Trevor Sikkema, Houston’s wide receivers received a positive grade from PFF.

“After trading Stefon Diggs, the Texans jump into the top 5 receiver teams.

Diggs has long been one of the best receivers in the league, even if he had a down year in 2023. Nico Collins had a great season last year and then-rookie Tank Dell looked good when healthy. The Texans are as strong at wide receiver as any team, rounding out their team with John Metchie, Robert Woods, Noah Brown and others.

“Houston also has good receiver options with tight end Dalton Schultz and running back Joe Mixon,” Sikkema wrote.

The arrival of Diggs, along with the continued improvement of Collins, Dell and Metchie, to name a few, has taken Houston’s wide receiver group to the next level. And with Stroud running the offense, there’s a good chance the Texans can make the jump later this year.

It remains to be seen whether Stroud and Co. can build on their success from last season. If they do, the team’s wide receivers deserve a lot of the credit.
