Taylor Swift’s “Cruel Summer” returns thanks to the Eras tour – again

Taylor Swift’s The Eras Tour came to the UK earlier this month, and since travelling across the pond, her fans in the country have shown their enthusiasm by purchasing and streaming her catalogue in bulk, focusing on a mix of her latest hits and one of her recent global hits.

This week, Swift’s “Cruel Summer” returns to the UK song charts. The song has clearly climbed back up the list of the most listened to songs in the country, as interest in all things related to the pop singer has increased again since her The Eras tour stops in the country… although it’s not like she wasn’t playing well before her visit.

“Cruel Summer” reappears at number 17 on the UK Songs Chart. That’s an excellent placement for a song that wasn’t on the chart in the last frame. In the past, “Cruel Summer” has peaked at number 2 on the UK charts. It’s one of Swift’s 30 top 10 hits in that country.

“Cruel Summer” first entered the UK song charts in September 2019 when it was originally released from her album Lover. It started at number 27, but then disappeared from the list after just one round.

In June 2023, “Cruel Summer” began its second life on charts around the world. When Swift included the electro-pop song in her setlist for The Eras Tour, fans everywhere were reminded of how much they love the song. Swift immediately re-released the track as a single and it landed over 40 more spots on the chart in the UK.

Swift’s “Cruel Summer” disappeared from the UK song charts in April after staying there for dozens of weeks. Now, less than two months later, the song is back… and it’s not alone.

“Cruel Summer” is one of three hits by Swift to take a place on the UK song rankings, which was Official Charts Company per artist. Her current single “Fortnight” featuring Post Malone remains at number 11 after previously landing at number 1. “I Can Do It With a Broken Heart” rises one place to number 19.

Swift recently performed to huge crowds in Edinburgh, Liverpool and Cardiff. She has three more London shows scheduled before taking her incredibly successful The Eras tour to other countries in Europe.
