ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Through dance, movement and dedication, a group of University of Michigan students raised more than $203,000 for CS Mott Children’s Hospital

Members of the Dance Marathon at the University of Michigan (DMUM) spent the past academic year raising money for pediatric therapies.

The organization partnered with grocery giant Kroger, which donated food, tote bags, gift cards, supplies, banners and $50,000 to host fundraising events.

“Kroger is excited to partner with Dance Marathon at the University of Michigan to develop the community’s future leaders. We are truly amazed by the tireless dedication and passion of these young students who are making a huge impact,” said Cam Barrett, Corporate Affairs Manager at Kroger Co. “We are grateful for the opportunity to work together and improve the lives of the families and children at CS Mott Children’s Hospital by fostering a strong sense of community engagement.”

Notable events supported by the retailer include DMUM’s fall Spook-a-thon, which gave Mott patients, families and community members the opportunity to participate in free Halloween activities.

Kroger also helped DMUM host the annual VictorThon, a fundraiser. Members sat and slept for 24 hours while entertaining and dancing the crowd to help fund therapies that may not be covered by health insurance for pediatric patients. Items donated by the grocery chain helped attract donors.

A $5,000 donation from Kroger on Giving Tuesday was matched by the University of Michigan to benefit a music therapist at CS Mott.

“DMUM is so grateful for everything Kroger has done to help us continue doing what we love, supporting the Little Victors at CS Mott Children’s Hospital. It has been an absolute honor to partner with Kroger and see how dedicated and passionate they are to making a lasting impact on the local community,” said DMUM Executive Director Alvin Dong.

DMUM hosts several fundraisers throughout the year and has raised over $7 million in donations and sponsorships for pediatric therapies since its inception 27 years ago.
