Former GM makes unusual statement about Jordan Love

Former GM makes unusual statement about Jordan Love

Halfway through last season, everyone and their mother was calling Jordan Love a loser as the Packers had a 3-6 record and Love had 10 interceptions.

And now we’re supposed to believe he’s the second best quarterback in the league? Bears fans like you are probably rolling your eyes.

Former Jets general manager Mike Tannenbaum told ESPN this week: “Other than Patrick Mahomes, there is no one in the world I would rather have than Jordan Love. Period. End of sentence.”

Love had an impressive second half last season, but since when do we glorify quarterbacks for half a season of good football?

Although his numbers were staggering in the second half (18 TDs to 1 INT), his performance dipped in the playoffs when he threw for less than 200 yards and 2 INTs in a 24-21 loss to the 49ers.

Here are a few other quarterbacks I would rather build an NFL with: Lamar Jackson, Josh Allen, Joe Burrow, Justin Herbert, CJ Stroud and Brock Purdy.

Just look for a ranking of NFL quarterbacks that has Love anywhere near the top five in the league. You can’t.

Here you can see Love’s ranking in some popular media lists.

Love is an impressive and exciting young quarterback, but can’t we slow down the hype train a bit?

But let’s take a look at the source before we get too upset.

Tannenbaum was GM of the Jets from 2006 to 2012, when the team had the following starting quarterbacks: Chad Pennington, Kellen Clemens, Brett Favre, Mark Sanchez and Greg McElroy.

Maybe he should leave the quarterback analysis to other NFL commentators.
