A body language expert examined new wedding footage of the wedding between Chris Watts and his wife Shanann, whom he later brutally killed along with their two daughters after learning she was pregnant with their third child
Grim wedding videos have emerged showing killer Chris Watts with his hands clenched into fists as he watches his bride Shanann dance – a haunting foreshadowing of the day he would brutally murder her and their two little girls.
The community was shocked to discover that Chris Watts, a seemingly devoted family man, had strangled his pregnant wife and two daughters before disposing of their bodies in oil drums in a remote desert area.
Judi James, a body language expert, examined the couple’s wedding video for early signs of the horror that was to unfold.

“The last photo is particularly striking, with Shanann dancing, bending over and smiling at the camera, but he stands there watching her, staring at her with a serious expression and his hands clenched into fists,” James noted.
James further analyzed the footage and noted, “If Chris Watts’ wedding videos suggest anything, it’s an introverted-looking personality. His involvement signals are low here, while those of his wife Shanann are high. She seems at ease as she actively displays her love for Chris and her joy on their wedding day. She puts her arms around his neck and looks at him with admiration, and when they pose for photos together, her hand on her hip is a spread-eagle gesture that signals confidence and happiness.”

“Chris, however, seems less comfortable in his own skin. As they stand together, his arms hang at his sides and his expression appears politely blank. While they dance, he does look Shanann in the eye, but otherwise seems uncomfortable making eye contact with the camera or his wife. She shows all the signs of having fun on their wedding day, but he seems less able to join in.”
“However, the introverted behavior could easily pass for shyness. He is referred to as a ‘good guy’ in her life and his quieter nature could have been confused with trustworthiness and reliability. People use the expression ‘opposites attract’ and one might have felt that his introversion allowed her to be outgoing, happy and free. Love can make even the worst qualities seem like admirable traits because we want to feel like we love the right person,” concludes James.
In a chilling confession detailed in letters from prison, Chris Watts described the horror of how he mercilessly killed his daughters Bella, 4, and Celeste, 3, before murdering his pregnant wife Shanann in their home in Frederick, Colorado.
The letters were part of a correspondence with true crime author Cheryln Cadle and revealed the cruel nature of the family annihilation.
The father of two was having an affair with a woman named Nichol Kessinger and had reportedly told Shanann that he was leaving her for Kessinger. Shanann was 15 weeks pregnant with the couple’s third child, a boy named Noah. After the disagreement, Watts began his cruel work.
However, his attempt to murder his daughters failed as they woke up injured and traumatized by what they had endured. Watts unsuccessfully suffocated his daughters before turning to his wife and saying, “Her eyes filled with blood.”
Horrifyingly, his two girls woke up and followed him through the house as he tended to Shannan’s body. They were eventually killed at the spot where they had briefly found their final resting place in the middle of the desert. Watts wrote from prison that “Bella was the only one who fought back” because “she knew I was killing her.”
Police first became aware of the disappearance of Mrs Watts and her children through a family friend who asked police to conduct a welfare check. While Watts initially denied any involvement in his family’s disappearance, he later confessed to his crimes to avoid the death penalty.
Watts is currently serving five life sentences without the possibility of parole, three of them consecutive, after pleading guilty to multiple counts of first-degree murder as part of a deal to overturn the death penalty (which was abolished in Colorado in 2020 anyway).
