“AGT” singer brings audience to tears

Stephanie Rainey’s emotional performance of her original song Please do not go was a moving experience for yesterday’s AGT Audience.

In the June 25 episode, the 36-year-old wowed the judges with a heartbreaking single that she wrote to help her cope with the grief of losing her nephew shortly before his first birthday.

“It was the day before his first birthday and he died,” she said tearfully. “It took me a long time to write a song about it.”

The Irish singer explained that her entire career had been a rollercoaster ride and that at some point she lost her passion for music. So she decided to do something she believed in.

“This song means more to me than I can even describe,” she continued.

Stephanie Rainey sang her heartbreaking lyrics with a deep sadness and truth that touched every audience member, including Simon Cowell, Heidi Klum, Sofia Vergara and Howie Mandel.

“Please Don’t Go” went viral before Stephanie Rainey sang it for “AGT”

While the AGT audience is usually loud and interactive, nothing but her voice and music could be heard until the end. After she sang her last note, the hall erupted in thunderous applause.

“Of all the new songs I’ve heard this year, this is by far the best,” Simon told Stephanie after her audition. “It’s real and your voice is beautiful.”

Please do not go has touched millions of hearts since Stephanie wrote it.

“I made it in a tiny room and uploaded it on a Monday morning… and by the end of the day it had a million views.”

After receiving four votes from the jury, Stephanie Rainey will compete in the live episodes. Follow her journey on America’s Got Talent Tuesday nights on NBC at 8/7CT.
