Fort Wayne Urban League launches new education program after fatal police shooting Saturday

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) – On Monday, the Fort Wayne Urban League issued a statement in response to a fatal police shooting Saturday in southeast Fort Wayne.

While the Fort Wayne Urban League mourns the loss of 22-year-old Linzell Parhm, it says its goal is to work on solutions to prevent similar incidents from happening again in the city in the future.

On Wednesday, 21Alive spoke with Aisha Arrington, president and CEO of the Fort Wayne Urban League.

Arrington shared that the organization is working on an initiative called “Mothers for the Movement: Every Child Safe at Home.” The goal of this initiative is to work with mothers in the community to educate youth about police protocols and build relationships with the Fort Wayne Police Department.

The mission of the Fort Wayne Urban League is to provide economic independence, equality, power and civil rights to African Americans and others.
