The Texas Longhorns caused a stir in the college sports world when they hired Texas A&M baseball head coach Jim Schlossnagle to replace fired coach David Pierce. But behind the scenes, people like Texas athletic director Chris Del Conte weren’t so surprised.
During their coaching search, Del Conte and others always knew Schlossnagle would be the right fit, according to 247Sports. In fact, Del Conte and Schlossnagle worked together during their time at TCU, from where Texas recruited Del Conte in 2017.
“I have known Coach Schlossnagle for a long time and there is no better coach, program builder and leader in the game and the best part is he is an even better person,” Del Conte said, according to 247Sports. “When we were looking for our next baseball coach, we knew Schloss would be the perfect choice and we are overjoyed to have him join our Longhorn family. He is a guy who obviously knows our state very well, is very familiar with the rich and proud history of our program and everything that Texas baseball is about and absolutely checks all the boxes for this important position.”
