Elite 2027 QB Trae Taylor talks about Badgers camp/visit and current offers

The Wisconsin Badgers brought one of the best quarterbacks of the 2027 class to campus when Illinois native Trae Taylor camped with the team earlier this month.

Taylor, who attends Carmel Catholic High School in Mundelein, Illinois, has risen quickly in recruitment and has already received 21 offers, including from Ohio State, Michigan, Ole Miss, UNC and Miami.

Taylor was part of a group of talented quarterbacks that camped in Wisconsin this summer and was the best of the bunch in all four sessions I was able to attend.

What did he think of his performance at camp earlier this month?

“I think I did a really good job today in terms of accuracy and passing the ball,” Taylor said after the training camp. “I wasn’t really trying to prove anything. It was more about showing off.”

Taylor’s long ball was particularly noticeable, as the rising sophomore showed great feel and accuracy in 1-on-1 repetitions with receivers.

“It’s not like it’s my main focus,” Taylor admitted. “It just kind of comes easy to me. It feels like a little layup. So, I mean, it always seemed kind of natural to me.”

The Illinois native has already made a quick start with his development, but wants to continue to develop and the next step is a faster release.

“Generating energy with less movement and moving forward (is a goal of mine in my release),” Taylor said. “I already have a fast release, but I’m getting even faster.”

What was the real reason for a player of Taylor’s caliber to come to Wisconsin and do his training camp there?

“I just want to see everything again before I narrow down my choices as to what schools are interested in me or what I’m interested in. And you know, I’ve been to this school before, so I just want to come back and see how the coaches really treated me and thought about me and then go from there.”

The Badgers were obviously interested in Taylor, so it was surprising that he left camp without an offer.

The quarterback didn’t get much of a chance to meet offensive coordinator Phil Longo during his visit, which wasn’t ideal, but he’s excited to build that relationship and see how Wisconsin fares on offense this year.

As for other interests, Taylor has been traveling a lot this summer, with trips to West Virginia and Ohio State in late June before heading to TCU and South Carolina in July.

With his height of 1.88 m and his weight of 79 kg, Taylor is already talented and is likely to be one of the most sought-after quarterbacks in the 2027 class.
