When I saw the Eras Tour in person my brain chemistry was affected by moments like the Call set, and of course the Surprise songs. As it turns out, Jason Kelce is a huge fan of the acoustic set too! Although his little brother Travis Kelce has been dating the pop star for some time, the former Philadelphia Eagles center attended his first Eras concert in London over the weekend and loved it. What really caught his eye, though, were the surprise songs, and I couldn’t agree more with his reasoning.
Among all the Projects Swifties can look forward toWe are also always excited about the surprise songs because they change at every show. her boyfriend Travis Kelce said in the last episode of New heightsshe “makes every show unique with the acoustic set,” and fans love it. Jason Kelce agrees, and he shared his reasons for doing so on the brothers’ podcast, starting with:
But first of all, I love acoustic music. When there’s just one musician, dude, it’s just her, a guitar and 90,000 people. And of course the 90,000 people are all singing the songs, like she’s got backing, there’s a lot of songs sung in unison and she goes from one song to the next and goes through it.
Jason attended Swift’s first two shows in London. He saw her play “Hits Different” and “Death By A Thousand Cuts” on guitar on the first night and then “The Black Dog,” “Come Back, Be Here,” and “Maroon” on piano. On the second night, he saw her combine “thanK you aIMee” with “Mean,” and he saw her perform “Castles Crumbling” with Hayley Williams of Paramore. Overall, he got excellent surprise songs. The thing is, though, that part of her show is always excellent.
The football player further explained why he enjoyed this part of the show so much by pointing out how difficult it was to pull it off consistently. He said:
To be good at that in front of 90,000 people, I think you have to be incredible. And first of all, you have to have great songs and great lyrics that you obviously wrote and composed yourself. And secondly, you have to be able to perform them seamlessly and spontaneously, without hiding anything else. That was the highlight of the evening for me.
Travis then explained how much Swifties are looking forward to this part, saying that this part of the show “puts everyone in a room with Taylor.” Jason elaborated on this point, saying it felt like an intimate concert, not a huge, massive show at Wembley:
Dude, you’re around 90,000 people, but for some reason it feels like you’re in a bar listening to someone play the piano. It was incredible.
I agree passionately with Jason Kelce. While Swift’s entire show is a masterpiece, especially given the Changes she has made since then The “Tortured Poets” section releasethe fact that she plays two new songs every night is incredible. The woman has well over 200 tracks and tries to do something Swifties have never seen before at each performance, which is one of the reasons she started doing mashups all the time.
You never know what to expect when she picks up her guitar for this part of the show and she really does get it right every time. She is incredible to watch and as Jason said, you feel like you are just “in a bar” listening to her play because she can make it so intimate and personal.
Overall, great points were made and I think it’s great that Jason Kelce had so much fun at his first Eras Tour concerts. He is always praised Taylor Swift very much, and I’m sure his respect and admiration has only grown now that he’s seen her do what she does best.
