Belfast singer Jordan Adetunji debuts on the Billboard Canadian Hot 100 with TikTok hit “Kehlani”

Belfast’s Jordan Adetunji went from TikTok fame to the Billboard Canadian Hot 100 this week, with viral single “Kehlani” debuting at No. 76.

The catchy track gained popularity on TikTok in May and eventually received a co-sign from the titular singer herself. The song features up-tempo R&B vocals over a sparse drill beat. Although the lyrics reference Kehlani and Tyla, the instrumental highlights another star, sampling Summer Walker’s “Potential.”

This is Adetunji’s first appearance on the Canadian Hot 100, and the Northern Irish artist is also on the Billboard Bubbling Under chart this week, suggesting he could soon land on the American Hot 100. Taking full advantage of the momentum, Adetunji has just signed with 300 Entertainment and Warner Records UK.

With his chart debut, Adetunji is the latest in a line of newcomers like Bayker Blankenship and Lay Bankz to go viral on TikTok this year, suggesting that the app still has a huge impact on getting new artists noticed, often first in Canada.

Elsewhere on the charts, Shaboozey maintains his No. 1 spot with “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” as the Virginia singer prepares for his first headlining North American tour this fall, which includes stops in Toronto on Sept. 13 and Quebec City on Sept. 14.

Sabrina Carpenter took first place on the American Hot 100 this week with “Please Please Please,” but in Canada the song is only at number three, behind “I Had Some Help” by Post Malone and Morgan Wallen.

Tommy Richman and Jelly Roll have new songs on the chart this week — “Devil Is a Lie” at No. 42 and “I Am Not Okay” at No. 44 — with the latter also planning two Canadian shows this fall, which will be his first international appearances. Don Toliver, Moneybagg Yo and Luke Combs have also released new songs.

Directly below Jordan Adetunji, Canadian artists occupy all positions from 77 to 80: Owen Riegling’s “Old Dirt Roads” at number 77, Preston Pablo’s “Dance Alone” at number 78, Zeina’s “Hooked” at number 79 and Charlotte Cardin’s “99 Nights” at number 80.
