In case you missed it, your water could be full of calcium, chlorine, heavy metals, and minerals that you probably don’t want spraying into your precious hair.

It’s been a month since I stopped using my crusty shower head and started using Canopy’s filtered shower head ($150) instead, and I can tell you it has really upgraded my shower. In fact, it has literally improved every shower I take – my hair was noticeably softer afterward literally only used it once. Besides thatWho would have thought that taking a standing shower in my small bathtub could feel like such a spa?

Be honest – how difficult was the installation?

I was quite intimidated at first, but in a happy turn of events, The installation was really so, so easy– and this is coming from me, a person who knows absolutely nothing about plumbing. At first I had trouble removing my old shower head because it had a massive build-up of limescale, but with a little effort I (and by that I mean my boyfriend) was able to unscrew it. After that, every part of the hand shower clicked into place so easily that I thought I might actually have a future as a handyman.

In addition, the whole thing is totally tenant-friendly—I was able to stick the hand shower directly to the wall without having to drill anything!

The ~experience~

Can I just say that showers with filtered water feel so clean and lovely? The water pressure is excellent and I felt like one of those celebs who (allegedly) like to bathe in bottled water. I really enjoy how luxurious each shower feels. I I felt comfortable holding my face directly under the shower jet knowing that the water was filteredwhich saves a surprising amount of time!

I briefly had the problem that my shower head initially spit water out the sides of the nozzle (and therefore not onto my hair, lol). But then I realized that I had forgotten peel the small sticker on the inside of the filter so that the water can actually flow through instead of splashing everywhere. Simple solution! 😅

The results

To my absolute shock, last month I noticed less hair in the drainwhich means a lot considering I’m used to losing a lot of hair in the shower (that combination of long hair and hormonal hair loss is pretty bad). I now look forward to washing my hair as it no longer feels like a somehow still half-dry, knotted mess after rinsing out my shampoo, and my (newly) softer hair is much easier to comb in the shower!

And while I haven’t noticed an increase or decrease in breakouts, as a skincare fanatic (i.e. someone who had bad acne as a teenager), I feel I feel much safer washing my face in the shower. I used to have a big desire to jump into the shower immediately after leaving the gym, but I’ve since given up that routine because the shower in my apartment with a filter is just too good.

So if you are wondering whether you should finally take the plunge, the answer is YES! Goodbye unfiltered water – I don’t think I’ll ever go back to it!
