HBO reboot of the Harry Potter series receives encouraging update

In April 2023, Warner Bros. announced a Harry Potter A reboot is in the works, this time as a television series. The studio moved quickly because the series just received a major update.

The new adaptation of JK Rowling’s seven books was looking for a showrunner for months, and now it’s official. SuccessionFrancesca Gardiner, one of the three finalists, was officially selected as authorand Mark Mylod (The menu) has also signed on as director.

The last update came four months ago, when Gardiner was among the finalists. She beat The devil’s hourTom Moran and The Decameron‘s Kathleen Jordan. Gardiner served as a consulting producer on SuccessionSeason 3 and 4. Now she will be the next Harry Potter Showrunner and executive producer of the reboot. Mylod, who also worked with Gardiner on Successionis also on board. The director, who is behind several cult episodes of the HBO drama, including the finale “With Open Eyes,” will also serve as an executive producer.


Warner Bros. Discovery has also released a new update for the Harry Potter series, and a few others, including the It Prequel series Welcome to Derry and DC Studios’ Lanterns. The three shows, originally intended to be Max originals, will now be rebranded as HBO originals as part of a new strategy. The series is said to be a “faithful” adaptation of the source material and will feature a new cast that has not yet been announced. The franchise’s writer has also shared her excitement about the choice, praising her “genuine passion” and assuring fans that the series will “more than meet expectations.”

The new Harry Potter The series is under a lot of pressure considering the films only ended over a decade ago. The films were far from perfect and the directors tried as best they could to stay faithful to Rowling’s books, but there were countless details that had to be adapted or removed from the books. Even if the upcoming Max reboot is meant to be a more “faithful” adaptation, the original films will always rely on nostalgia for the original. Harry Potter fans.

Daniel Radcliffe, who played the title character in eight films from 2000 to 2011, confirmed that he will not be in the reboot. “Like the rest of the world, I am very excited as a viewer.When asked if he would be part of the series, Radcliffe replied: “I don’t think so. I think they wisely want a clean break. And I don’t know if it would work if we did anything in it.”


The upcoming Harry Potter The premiere of the television series is planned for 2026.
