Texas Rangers general manager Chris Young says the third-place team needs an offensive spark

MILWAUKEE (AP) — Texas Rangers general manager Chris Young announced several roster changes Wednesday to improve the defending World Series champions’ offense.

“We can’t sit back and wait and hope that everything works out. It’s time for us to get going, it’s time for us to be the team we can be offensively,” Young said.

“I have a lot of confidence in all of these players, but for various reasons we just didn’t perform as well as we expected.”

Texas acquired outfielder Derek Hill from Triple-A Round Rock. He batted .222 in a five-game stint with the Rangers from May 21 to June 2. The Rangers also optioned infielder Ezequiel Duran to Round Rock. Duran batted .256 with two home runs and 13 RBIs in 58 games.

The Rangers also activated infielder Justin Foscue from the injured list and sent him to Round Rock. They also placed right-hander Cole Winn from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day injured list (right shoulder sprain) and designated for assignment right-hander Yerry Rodríguez.

Through Wednesday, the Rangers are 37-42, five games under their .500 record and in third place in the AL West, 6½ games behind Seattle.

The Rangers had scored a total of four runs before the series finale and lost two games in a row to the Brewers.

“Sometimes you have to try to shake things up. We’re looking for a spark,” manager Bruce Bochy said.
