An aspiring reggaeton singer and University of Southern California student was arrested after stabbing a homeless man to death outside a student dormitory.

Ivan Gallegos, 19, was arrested Monday night in connection with a fatal stabbing in Greek Row. He is being held on $2 million bail.

The Los Angeles Police Department has not yet officially released the student’s name, but other media outlets have already mentioned him by name.

According to USC student publication The Daily Trojan, officers responded to the stabbing, which was reported around 8:15 p.m.

Los Angeles police said the victim, a 27-year-old man who was apparently homeless, attempted to break into a car next to the Lambda Chi Alpha and Delta Tau Delta fraternity house.

Gallegos is a sophomore at USC studying business. He also describes himself as an “up-and-coming regional music artist and producer.” His stage name is IDG.
USC Annenberg Media recently wrote a profile on him, calling him “LA’s up-and-coming corrido and reggaeton artist.”

The man allegedly told the student that he had a gun, whereupon Gallegos confronted him and stabbed him multiple times, the LAPD said.

Police reportedly found the victim in an alley with stab wounds. Paramedics arrived and pronounced him dead at the scene, the LA Times reported.

According to his LinkedIn account, Gallegos is a sophomore studying business administration at USC.

He also describes himself as an “up-and-coming regional music artist and producer.” His stage name is IDG.

He was born and raised in a rough neighborhood in East Los Angeles. His parents were reportedly involved in gangs. According to his Instagram, he graduated from Roosevelt High School in 2022. He is first generation Latino.

“Despite growing up in an environment filled with drugs, gangs and prostitution, he focused on music and honed his skills to become a versatile musician and singer,” Annenberg Media wrote about Gallegos.

He has performed with the mariachi band Los Troyanos and also produces reggaeton and electronic dance music.

Speaking to MailOnline, Gallegos’ mother Violet said: “We are OK but we are holding on. He is a very good boy but that is all we can say at the moment.”
