Bad Moves announce new album + share new song “Hallelujah”

Today, Washington-based power/pop band Bad Moves announced that their new album Wear out the choruswill be released on September 13th via Don Giovanni Records.

On the new record, the band explores the repeating cycles of life that unfortunately cause existential nausea – a term they define as follows: “the moments when we are overcome by an oppressive feeling of meaninglessness.”

All of this is handled with catchy guitar pop and layered, interlocking vocals in a way that only Bad Moves could tackle with such sarcastic glee. With themes like the grinding gears of capitalism, the endless pursuit of emotional growth, or the ever-evolving balance between social change and regression, it can feel like life is constantly repeating the same bad joke with a punchline that doesn’t work.

One such moment of social regression, namely the proliferation of laws aimed at dismantling protections for queer and transgender people, strikes us as particularly alarming.”, explain Bad Moves. “Cloaked in the usual jargon of moral panic, laws designed to control gender expression and silence discourse about sexual identity aim to erase our identities, dehumanize queer and trans people, and push them into hiding, making the world a more dangerous place to live..”

In addition to the album announcement, the band has released a new single, “Hallelujah.” It’s an anthem in support of the rights of queer and trans people to simply exist in the world. Several members of Bad Moves grew up in religious environments – some progressive, some less so – so the hypocrisy of using faith as a tool to suppress queer identity is personal. They continue: “As we struggle through the vicious cycle of despair, our answer to those who would deny everyone the opportunity for true self-development can only be: STOP IT.

Wear out the chorus follows recent tours with Cheekface and Ekko Astral, as well as two recently released singles that give a taste of the upcoming album, including the big, existential banger of “Let the rats inherit the earth”, and their brilliant holiday anthem “New Year break.”
