Oliver Sykes from Bring Me the Horizon on his own song “Medicine”: “Even I think the song sucks”

Here’s one the haters are sure to devour. It seems that even Bring Me the Horizon hate some of Bring Me the Horizon’s songs. According to a video uploaded to Twitter, frontman Oli Sykes overheard a fan requesting the band’s 2019 hit single “Medicine” and reacted quite dismissively to his own song during a recent performance in Germany.

“‘Medicine’? Are you okay? You want to hear ‘Medicine’? Even I think that song sucks.”

Presumably, Sykes thought so much of the song in 2019 that he included it on the album and released it as a single, so it seems that at some point in the last five years, he became disillusioned with his own pop-metal hit. In fact, Sykes and then-keyboardist Jordan Fish had a lot of positive things to say about the song in a 2019 interview with NME. Well, it was more Fish’s good things about the album, but Sykes seemed to agree with Fish’s statements. Here’s what Fish said at the time:

“When we wrote it, we just really liked it. We just thought, ‘That’s a cool song.’ It was always clear that it would be on the album, right?”

The move to a poppier sound on “Medicine” was unpopular with many metal fans, including MetalSucks Staff circa 2019. Many metalheads accused them of becoming a pure pop band and completely abandoning their metal elements. So perhaps the backlash to the song made Sykes dislike his own creation. But then there’s the fact that Fish parted ways with the band late last year and, as we reported, it wasn’t as amicable a split as originally portrayed. So perhaps Fish’s involvement in the song had something to do with Sykes changing his mind.
