Bemidji Curling Club nominates Louis Blocker and Rob Yuretich

The Bemidji Pioneer, Paul Bunyan Broadcasting, Ken K. Thompson and the United Way recognize “special volunteers” who have made significant contributions to the community.

The Bemidji Curling Club has nominated Louis Blocker and Rob Yuretich.

In the 2023-2024 season, Louis Blocker took over as director of the Sunday Night Juniors Program, teaching children in grades 1-5. The Bemidji Curling Club hosts one of the largest junior programs in the country and it takes many dedicated individuals to ensure that as many children in our community have access and encouragement when they step out on the ice.

“We are so grateful to have someone like Louis to help inspire the young people in our community and instill a love of curling,” a press release said.

The Bemidji Curling Club Board of Directors is also proud to nominate Rob Yuretich for his countless volunteer efforts over the years on behalf of the Bemidji Curling Club.

“From updating our website to working on the ice crew to prepare and maintain our curling ice to assisting with bonspiel preparation, he is always ready to lend a hand,” the release said. “It is members like Rob who continue to embody the spirit of curling and create a welcoming community space for members and visitors.”

Our newsroom sometimes reports under the name “Pioneer Staff Report.” This name is used when reporters paraphrase basic news briefs from official sources, such as an email or press release that requires little or no reporting.

In other cases, this name is used when a news story has multiple authors or when the story consists of a summary of previously reported news stories from different sources. If outside sources are used, this is noted in the story.
